It's been a quiet couple of weeks since my youngest son, Quinn left for the Air Force ... my nest is empty and I'm not handling it well ... I don't like how empty my little house feels nowadays ... I had NO idea how icky this was going to feel ... how do you stop being a parent? I mean, I know that I'm still a mom, but everything is different now ... believe me, I'm ROTTEN company right now ... so I stitch ... and stitch ... and stitch ... the UFO pile grows ever higher ... think I need a swift kick ...

I have a bit of time before I have and empty nest, however, I often wonder how I will feel when my boys fly the nest! Thoughts go out to you and hope you find peace.
Hi Teresa,
Rather than a swift kick you need tender loving care at this transitional time in life. I know the stitching and rug hooking is a blessing for me in coping with all that's going on in the world and here at home. Stay safe and warm this Holiday Season and let us know how you are doing! It's good to share your feelings. Blessings to you my friend! Cathy G
I've been an empty nester for a good many years , you do get used to it and eventually you actually get to like it. I have my children and grandchildren visiting regularly now but I've grown to enjoy the peace and quiet of my home and all the freedom that I have.
It's rough, and no one really warns us about it. The focus is on the birds who are leaving the nest, not the mom and dad who are left behind.
Now's the time to catch up on all that reading or start a redecorating project you put off til 'some day'. Start looking up girlfriends to do lunch or go for coffee with, dig into your family tree on ancestry.com.
If you really really really need kids in the house sign up to host a foreign exchange student or foster kids, or even foster pets.
I've done most of the above list (no new kids tho, but an extra dog) and I volunteer more.
It's been two years for me now, and it just takes time to get used to it. It's a new phase in your life. You're still a mom, but now you have more time to be You.

I haven't been faced with that yet but dread it.Blessins and big hugs 2 u this holiday season;)
It's okay to grieve a new "season of life"...to feel lost...everything is different, but this too shall pass. So, grieve well and "what to do next" will come in time.
